EMS personnel in the United States have an estimated fatality rate of 12.7 per 100,000 workers, more than twice the national average. Ambulance crashes are one of the many hazards faced by EMS personnel, and head strikes against hard surface cabinets represent one of the most significant dangers within the ambulance interior.
LifeGuard RollTek®, now available in the ambulance industry, deploys side airbags in a rollover to greatly reduce the potential for death or serious injury to EMS personnel riding in the patient compartment.
How Does It Work?
Here’s how RollTek for ambulances works:
- A roll sensor inside the cab continuously monitors ambulance stability.
- When an imminent rollover is detected, the system deploys side airbags in the CPR and attendant positions to cushion the heads and necks of EMS personnel riding in the patient compartment.
- Three-point seat belts, engineered as an integral part of the RollTek system, not only act as a primary restraining device, but also serve the function of positioning the occupant to impact the airbag in a rollover.
RollTek is now available on Horton ambulances. For more information, contact Horton Emergency Vehicles at 614-539-8181 or info@hortonambulance.com.
